Edith the Ballerina

Edith had long asked to take ballet classes. I had just as long suspected that she wanted to do ballet for the fancy outfit. Nevertheless, the requests kept coming, so I knew it was time to sign her up.

Instead of a formal studio, we opted for ballet classes at one of Columbus's recreation centers. Of course the training would not be as rigorous, but I figured she would get some basics and fulfill what I can only assume was her lifelong dream of owning ballet slippers.

The classes met 30 minutes once a week for two months. It was perfect. The teacher worked hard not only to teach them a few positions, but also to empower them to become kind and strong girls as they grow up.

The dress code was lax (wear whatever feels comfortable!), and the same was true for the short recital they held earlier this month. Edith was so excited to dance on a stage! I'm glad she got the opportunity, but also a little relieved that she didn't seem too disappointed not to renew the classes this session. (Her teacher isn't leading a ballet class during the next session, and I was a fan of the teacher more even than the class itself!) This spring: art classes!
