Edith Learns to Swim

One of Edith's proudest moments of the summer? Advancing to Level 2 in her swim lessons.

Although she has always liked the water, this has been her first real summer of swim lessons. And I mean SWIM LESSONS. This is her seventh straight week of the summer in the pool, 30 minutes each Monday through Thursday.

At the beginning of the summer she didn't want to get her head wet, and forget about going under the "mushroom" of falling water in the pool. Now she's proud of how many times she can bob her head -- more than a dozen, without a doubt. And she's finally getting the hang of floating on her back.

Swim tests are at the end of every two-week session, and she finally passed from Level 1 to 2 last Thursday. She was so happy, and frankly I was too. It's nice to have something concrete to show for the summer.

Swimming Fun

Forget seeing the sites. When we visited Milwaukee and Chicago last month, one of the big highlights was the hotel pool.

Edith on this vacation "learned to swim" -- with the giant caveat that she needs a life jacket. Real swim lessons will be coming up soon for her, I hope. Atticus enjoyed splashing around. And Mama enjoyed the free time she was afforded when Daddy took the kids to the pool, but I even joined them once. Fun was had by all.

Paul's Twin?

It seems that all I've done since Friday is watch the Olympics.

And since Michael Phelps is shown on TV approximately every seven seconds, it seems that all I've really done is look at Paul.

I first noticed the resemblance between Paul and the record-breaking swimmer four years ago during the Athens Olympics. A few photos of Phelps as a child were shown on TV a couple of nights ago, and they look even more like Paul.

I'm obviously not the only one who thinks they very possibly could be one and the same person.

Today Paul forwarded me an email from one of his former co-workers. It was originally sent to about a dozen people and included one line and a photo:

"Paul's been busy in China!"
